Mint Mobile's New Deals: $15 Phone Plans and a $45 Wireless-Plus-Internet Bundle
Two limited-time offers promise cheaper phone service or a combined wireless-and-home-internet bill, here's what they actually cost after the promo period ends.
Mint Mobile is running two promotions aimed at cord cutters, and the dollar math on each one is worth spelling out before you sign up.
The $15-a-month phone plan
New customers can get any Mint Mobile plan, including its Unlimited plan, for $15 a month during the initial term. That’s half the Unlimited plan’s normal $30-a-month, three-month rate. But there’s a catch that matters for your budget: Mint requires payment upfront for the full term, not month to month. A three-month term costs $45 total, six months costs $90, and a full year costs $180. After that initial term, the promotional price ends and regular pricing kicks in, so this is a one-time discount, not a permanent lower bill.
The Unlimited plan itself includes unlimited talk, text and data, 20GB of mobile hotspot data, and calling to Mexico, Canada and the U.K. Heavy data users should note that going over 50GB in a billing cycle can mean slower speeds when the network is congested.
The $45-a-month bundle
The second offer combines 12 months of Mint’s 5G Home MINTernet with 12 months of Unlimited Premium Wireless for $540 upfront, which works out to $45 a month, and Mint says it’s a $300 savings versus paying regular price for both services separately over a year.
MINTernet runs on T-Mobile’s 5G network and is pitched as a substitute for cable or fiber internet, complete with a provided gateway. It comes with unlimited data, though speeds can slow after 1GB, sorry, 1TB, of usage in a busy month, and performance depends on cellular network conditions rather than a dedicated wired connection. Mint also says customers who add an eligible phone plan can shave another $10 a month off MINTernet, and the bundle carries a five-year “No Bill Creep Guarantee” for eligible plans. Taxes and fees are billed separately.
Who actually benefits
If you just want a cheaper cell phone bill and don’t mind paying in a lump sum, the $15-a-month plan is the simpler deal, it’s a straightforward discount on an already-competitive Unlimited plan. The catch is remembering that the low rate disappears once the term ends, so mark your calendar or you’ll be paying the regular rate without noticing.
The bundle is a bigger commitment financially, $540 at once is real money, but it’s aimed at a different kind of shopper: households trying to replace both their internet and wireless bills in one move rather than juggling two providers and two due dates. For those tired of promotional broadband rates that jump after a year, locking in $45 a month for twelve months removes that uncertainty, provided MINTernet is actually available at your address.
What to do about it
Before signing up for either deal, check Mint’s website to confirm MINTernet coverage at your home, since availability varies by location. If you’re only after phone savings, run the math on whether $15 a month upfront beats your current bill after taxes and fees are added back in. And whichever deal you pick, set a reminder for when the promotional term ends, that’s when Mint’s regular pricing takes over, and the whole reason for switching could quietly disappear from your wallet.
