Amazon Bundles Five Streaming Channels for $29.99 a Month on Prime Video
AMC+, BritBox, MGM+, PBS Masterpiece and STARZ now come as one add-on inside Prime Video, here's what it actually saves versus buying each on its own.
What changed
Amazon has rolled out its first five-service bundle inside Prime Video Channels, packaging AMC+, BritBox, MGM+, PBS Masterpiece and STARZ into a single add-on for $29.99 a month. That works out to $359.88 a year if you keep it running for twelve months. Amazon says the bundle represents a 39% savings compared with subscribing to all five channels separately. The deal is U.S.-only and layers on top of an existing Prime Video Channels subscription, which itself sits on top of a regular Prime membership.
Ryan Pirozzi, who heads Prime Video Channels in the U.S., framed it as a “milestone” for Amazon’s subscriptions business, and executives from STARZ and MGM+ used the announcement to talk up cross-promotion between their networks. That’s the spin. The number that matters to your wallet is the $29.99 monthly charge and how it compares with what you’re already paying.
What it means for your bill
If you already subscribe to two or more of these five channels separately through Prime Video Channels, this bundle is worth a look, since Amazon’s math says stacking them individually costs more than the $29.99 flat rate. If you only watch one of the five, say you’re a STARZ-only household, the bundle is not a discount, it’s an upsell, because you’d be paying for four channels you don’t use to save on the one you do.
Nothing here reduces the price of the individual channels on their own; this is a new option sitting next to existing à la carte pricing, not a replacement for it. And the bundle doesn’t touch your base Prime membership fee, which is billed separately and unaffected by this change.
Who pays more, who doesn’t
Heavy channel-stackers likely come out ahead. Someone paying for AMC+, BritBox, MGM+, PBS Masterpiece and STARZ individually each month has, according to Amazon’s own figure, been paying roughly two-thirds more than the new $29.99 bundle price. Casual viewers who dip into just one of these niche channels gain nothing from switching and would be paying extra for four unused services if they sign up anyway.
There’s no cost increase forced on anyone here, this is an opt-in bundle, not a repricing of channels you already have. The people who should actually check their bill are current subscribers to two or more of the five, since the bundle could shave real dollars off what they’re currently paying across separate subscriptions.
What to do about it
Before switching, add up what you’re currently paying for any of these five channels individually through Prime Video Channels. If the total is close to or above $29.99, the bundle is worth switching to. If you only use one of the five, skip it, you’ll pay more, not less, for content you won’t watch. And remember this bundle rides on top of your existing Prime membership fee, which isn’t part of this deal and isn’t going away. As with any bundle, set a calendar reminder to check whether you’re still watching all five services in three or six months; bundles are easy to sign up for and easy to forget to cancel once viewing habits shift.
