JustWatch Is Building Its Own Streaming Service - But It Won't Say What the Subscription Costs Yet
The app that tells you where to watch is about to let you watch, too, with free movies and rentals now and a paid ad-free tier still unpriced.
What’s changing
JustWatch, the search tool that tells you which app has your movie, is turning into a place to actually watch one. The company is rolling out JustWatch TV, a service built right into its existing site and apps, so you won’t need a new login or a new app icon. A beta version is live now with free, ad-supported movies and some titles available to rent. The full launch is set for October 2026 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
The catalog will pull from studios and distributors including Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street and Vortex Media, mixing newer releases with older titles, indie films and documentaries. JustWatch says more content partners are coming before launch.
The three ways you’ll pay - or not
JustWatch TV is structured around three options:
- Free with ads - no cost, supported by advertising, available now in beta.
- Rentals - pay per title, already testable in the beta.
- Ad-free subscription - a paid tier JustWatch has confirmed but not priced.
That’s the key gap for anyone tracking their monthly bill: the free and rental tiers cost what they say on the label, but the subscription price - the number that would actually move your streaming budget - hasn’t been announced. Until JustWatch publishes a price, there’s no dollar figure to compare against Peacock, Paramount+ or the ad-tier prices on Netflix and Disney+.
Why this matters for your wallet
JustWatch says it has more than 50 million monthly users across 140 markets and tracks over 500,000 titles across 1,500-plus streaming services. That scale gives it leverage most new free streamers don’t have on day one - it already knows what people search for and want to watch. In practice, that could mean a stronger free tier at launch than typical ad-supported startups manage, which is good news if you’re trying to hold the line on subscriptions.
But this isn’t a replacement for what you already pay for. JustWatch says it will keep pointing users to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu and others when those remain the best place to watch something. So JustWatch TV is additive - another free option and another place to spend on rentals - not a substitute that lets you cancel an existing subscription.
Who pays more, who doesn’t
Nobody’s existing bill changes because of this launch. If you use the free ad-supported tier, it costs nothing beyond watching ads. If you rent, you pay per title, same as Vudu or Amazon’s rental catalog. The unknown is the ad-free subscription: if JustWatch prices it competitively (think in the $5-$10 monthly range common among smaller ad-free tiers), it becomes one more optional line item. If it’s pricier, it may not be worth adding on top of what you already pay.
What to do about it
Don’t budget for this yet - there’s no subscription price to plan around. If you want to try it, the free and rental options are already live in beta at no commitment. Before October, watch for JustWatch to publish the ad-free subscription price and full launch catalog; that’s the number that will tell you whether this is a genuine bill-saver or just another optional add-on.
